MLHD successful in China
From 2004 to 2008 the Chinese implementation of the Minimum Lethal Herbicide Dose method (MLHD) has been tested and demonstrated in 4 provinces (Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Heilongjiang). The results in Maize on 20 demo fields in Shandong and Hebei were most significant. In a total of 45 field experiments an average crop yield increase of 7% was realized, when compared to normal practice. At the same time the use of herbicide decreased with 50%. The results show that the MLHD method of weed control can bring huge profits to farmers and may contribute significantly to the modernization of China's agriculture. These results were presented and discussed at the 7th project meeting of the CMHD project which was held at the Institute for the Control of Agro-Chemicals (ICAMA) in Beijing on 16-17 January 2008. It was concluded that MLHD is ready for large scale implementation in Maize and can also bring significant benefits to other crop types after some more research.
