5 Februari 2010 - An alarming message on the food situation in Niger has recently been published on the web, suggesting that 2.7 million people face hunger in Niger. See for example the link below this message. We have recently improved our processing system. This has been reason to re-process our MSG data of the last 6 years and make a revised sorghum yield estimate per 30 September 2009. The resulting provincial difference yield map is shown below. Green colors indicate above average, red colors below average yields. The general picture confirms the alarming message from Niger. Sorghum/millet yields are estimated to be some 10% below average.
